Abstract

The construction of the recently approved Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) at GSI will allow to produce a large number of different double Λ-hypernucleus species by exploiting p ¯ -nucleus annihilations at energies just above the Ξ ¯ + Ξ − pair creation threshold. Among other physics goals, the P̄ANDA (antiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) Collaboration is aiming to carry on an extensive program of high resolution γ -spectroscopy of such systems. The double Λ-hypernucleus production method and the proposed experimental setup are briefly discussed.
