Abstract
Summary Background An imbalance between production of free radicals and oxidative protection in association with the coronary decease and their consequences such heart failure (HF). The aim of this study was to confirm the assumption of the impact of oxidative stress on patients with HF and hyperhomocyteinemia. Patient and method The study population included 60 patients with HF (71% were hyperhomocysteinemic) and 30 healthy controls subjects. Substances reacting with the acid thiobarbituric associated with the LDL (LDL TBARS) were determined by fluorimetric method, total status antioxidant (SAT) with colorimetric method and the glutathione peroxydase (GPx) was determined at 340 nm. Results Compared with healthy control subjects, patients with HF and hyperhomocyteinemia had statistically significant increase in the rate of LDL TBARS (p Conclusion Our study confirmed the hypothesis of implication of stress oxidative stress in HF with hyperhomocyteinemia.
