Abstract

Cubic phase nickel disulfide (NiS2) materials have been synthesized via hydrothermal method with the reactants of NiSO4, S and FeSO4. The size of the synthetic NiS2 particles is about 2.8 μm in average according to the laser particle size analysis. The discharging experiments reveal that the NiS2 has smaller polarization than that of the natural FeS2 due to its small electrical resistivity and large surface area contacting with electrolytes. When discharging at the condition of large current density or pulse current density, the NiS2 thermal battery shows better electrochemical performance than that of the FeS2 thermal battery.
