Abstract

An interesting metal–organic coordination polymer {[Zn 3(C 2O 4) 3(4,4′-bipy) 4]} n 1 has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectrum, TG analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/ c, a=16.264(3) A ̊ , b=15.603(3) A ̊ , c=16.343(3) A ̊ , β=94.13(3)°, V=4136.5(14) A ̊ 3, Z=4, R1=0.0554, wR 2=0.1217. Compound 1 exhibits a 2D network, which consists of infinite zinc (II) oxalate chains connected to each other by a half of 4,4′-bipy acting as bridging ligands, while the other half of 4,4′-bipy just does as terminal ones.
