Abstract

Using high-purity α-cristobalite powder compacted into grains of 0.5–1.0 mm or into lumps of approximately 1 cm in diameter, hydrothermal synthesis was achieved for (i) high-purity quartz crystals above 1000 atm, (ii) quartz crystals below 200 atm and (iii) micro quartz crystals of relatively uniform ranging of average 100 μm (∥ C axis) and 60 μm (⊥ C axis).
