Abstract
This in vitro study compared the apical sealing efficacy and permeability of Hydron with laterally condensed gutta-percha and Grossman's sealer. Thirty teeth were biomechanically prepared and obturated with Hydron, alterally condensed gutta-percha and Grossman's sealer, and single-point gutta-percha without sealer. Each tooth was suspended in a solution of manganous chloride for 24 h. A scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive analysis capability was used to assay the amount of mangamese that reached the apical 2-mm level in each specimen. Gutta-percha with Grossman's sealer and Hydron were found to seal the canal at the apical 2-mm level. However, Hydron was found to be significantly more permeable to managanese ions than gutta-percha with Grossman's sealer.
