Abstract

Effect of 1.6 and 3.2at.% additions of Al into LaNi4.5Co0.5 alloy on its gas phase hydrogenation (up to pH2=10bar), electrochemical discharge capacity (0.5C; 1bar), exchange current density of H2O/H2 system (6M KOH) and parameters characterizing electrode corrosion behavior have been evaluated for temperature of 22°C. The small Al additions clearly (ca 30%) increase the hydride capacity and do not affect- or slightly decrease the exchange current density of H2O/H2 system. On the other hand, the Al-containing alloys are more resistant to corrosion in strong alkaline solution compared to the LaNi4.5Co0.5 precursor.
