Abstract
The hydrogen treatment of materials (HTM) as a novel field of Materials Science and Engineering is analysed and reviewed. First, a short history of HTM development is given. Then, the fundamentals of HTM are analysed and it is shown that hydrogen action on materials comprises physical, chemical, physico-chemical and mechanical components. In this aspect, hydrogen-induced phase transformations and their use in HTM are reviewed.
