Abstract
ABSTRACT Lead(II) may be extracted from acetate solution into a Kelex 100 in decanol/kerosene solvent from which metallic lead may be produced by hydrogen reduction. Lead(II) extraction increases with increasing pH, the loaded species being an unsolvated chelate at pH above 4.5. The kinetics of hydrogen stripping have been studied using solvent loaded to 20 g/1. lead(II), the equilibrium pH of the raffinate being 5.90. The effects of temperature (220°C to 260°C), hydrogen pressure (1.38 MPa to 4.14 MPa), seed addition and agitation have been examined. Lead was produced as massive agglomerates with only minor attachment to wetted reactor parts. Hydrogen stripped extractant was recyclable with no changes in loading or stripping performance
