Abstract

Three different aluminium alloys were exposed to conditions similar to BWR and PWR containment spray waters at 50, 100 and 150°C. BWR de-ionized water gives corrosion rates of at most 0.05 mm/year and hydrogen concentrations less than 0.1–1%. By contrast, PWR alkaline solutions give very high corrosion rates and hydrogen contents.
