Abstract

A new type of electrochemical cell is described that can be employed to electrochemically transport hydrogen. It consists of a unique three layer solid/liquid/solid (S/L/S) sandwich configuration with a thin film hydride-conducting liquid electrolyte between two hydrogen-transparent mixed-conducting metal electrodes. Its general characteristics and prospects for several types of applications will be discussed.
