Abstract

Evperiments using the volumetric Wagener method were performed with Ti/Me-film sandwich samples (Me = Ni, Fe, Pd and Mn). They show that the hydrogen absorption rate is enhanced by nickel, iron and palladium overlayers for films without ovygen precoverage. After ovygen absorption evuivalent to 10 monolayers of ovygen the reaction rate is reduced to below the value for a pure titanium film with the same precoverage as for nickel and iron overlayers. The ovide film is vuantitatively removed from palladium overlayers. Iron overlayers on TiO 2 and nickel overlayers on La 2O 5 considerably enhance the rate of hydrogen absorption as has been demonstrated by the vuartv microbalance technivue.
