Abstract

The paper presents an investigation of hydrodynamic interaction of roll stabilizing wings, based on a special vortex system and known experimental results.Introducing a finite equivalent length of free tip vortices behind the leading wing allows to determine the downwash angle and lift force of the following wing over a wide range of aspect ratios and intervals between the wings. An example of applying the obtained results is considered in calculations of a roll damping moment generated by lift forces of the Short Wings Roll Stabilizer (SWIRS), installed on a high-speed ship.
