Abstract

Intrinsic viscosity, translational diffusion and flow birefringence were measured in dichloroacetic acid solutions of an aromatic copolyester prepared from terephthalic acid, phenylhydroquinone, and resorcinol and having the ratio of meta-to para-aromatic rings in the backbone 5:95. Molecular masses of samples, calculated from the values of intrinsic viscosity and the diffusion coefficient using the Tsyetkov-Klenin hydrodynamic invariant A 0 = 3.5 × 10 −17 J/K, fell into the interval (3.1–29.9) × 10 3. The length of the Kuhn segment was A = (200 ± 20) Å. The extent of hindrance to intramolecular rotation was found to be (σ −2) 1 2 = 1.08 .
