Abstract

Abstract The hydrodechlorination of CCl 2 F-CF 3 (CFC-114a) was studied over silica-supported metal chatalysts. The order of catalytic activity estimated from the reaction temperatures giving the same conversion of CCl 2 F-CF 3 was Pd>Rh>Pt>Ru. Pd and Ru catalysts gave, respectively, the di-replaced product CH 2 F-CF 3 and the mono-replaced product CHClF-CF 3 selectively. Although the activities of Rh and Pt catalysts were lower than that of the Pd catalyst, these catalysts catalyzed the replacement of fluorine atom with hydrogen to give CH 3 -CF 3 at relatively high selectivity. The factor determining the selectivity of noble metal catalysts is discussed.
