Abstract

In this investigation, microbial adhesion expedites formation and alteration of aluminous minerals within aviation fuel tank systems. The corrosion mechanisms of two uncoated aluminium alloys and three types of coating-pretreated aluminium alloys by hydrocarbon-degrading Shewanella algae are examined. NO3- reduction of microorganisms induces corrosion acceleration of LY12 aluminium alloy (1.48 g*m−2*h−1) and corrosion inhibition of 7B04 aluminium alloy. CLSM and SEM observation of coating morphology highlight the microbial deterioration behaviors of coatings (pitting, swelling, and peeling). It inspires material selection and surface coating of microbial corrosion protection of aluminium alloy in marine and aerial environments.
