Abstract
A method is described for solubilization of the rostellar hooks of the Strobilocerci of Hydatigera taeniaeformis, Batsch, 1786. This consists of extraction of the hooks with hot pyridine followed by reduction of cystine disulfide bonds with 2-mercaptoethanol. Pyridine extraction, which has no apparent effect upon hook morphology, removes 1.5% of the hook mass, presumably a lipid. The resulting solution contains an electrophoretically heterogeneous mixture of basic proteins.
