Abstract
This article investigates the concept of hybrid power plants, as a remedy for the implementation obstacles of onshore power supply, which arise mainly due to the required the high peak demand. In fact, a simple optimization is employed to size the photovoltaic and battery energy storage units of a seaport microgrid with onshore power supply capability but with limited grid capacity and available area. Based on the ELECTRIPORT European Commission project, the Port ofHeraklion was selected as the testbed for the case study that is presented to highlight the efficacy of the proposed approach.
