Abstract
In this study, 0.94Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-0.06BaTiO3 (BNT-BT)/cement composites were fabricated with different amounts of BNT-BT (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 wt.%) in two types of cement: Portland cement and white Portland cement. The characterizations of these BNT-BT/cement composites were conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Piezocatalytic and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye using BNT-BT/cement pellets were investigated. Incorporating the BNT-BT phase into the cement matrix significantly enhanced the piezocatalytic MB dye degradation under ultrasonication. It was observed that ≈ 71.51% degradation of MB dye could be achieved in the absence of light using ultrasonic vibrations as an excitation source, with a vibration time of 180 minutes. Moreover, the MB dye degradation under UV light demonstrated that the BNT-BT/cement composite exhibited good photocatalytic activity.
