Abstract

For pressure sensing, a novel hybrid-dual core photonic crystal fiber (H-DCPCF) is proposed with elliptical and circular air holes based on coupling of modes between the two cores of H-DCPCF. Under different applied hydrostatic pressure, the mode coupling between two cores of H-DCPCF is numerically analyzed. The transmission spectrum of the sensor is very sensitive to the applied hydrostatic pressure on the H-DCPCF. It is observed that the hydrostatic pressure given to the H-DCPCF is linearly related to the peak wavelength shift of the output transmission spectrum of sensor. Numerical simulation shows that the 6 cm long hydrostatic pressure sensor based on H-DCPCF has a sensing range from 0 to1000 Mpa and a sensitivity of -11.6 pm/Mpa.
