Abstract
The optimization design question for a mechanical transmission system is a hybrid discrete question. It is desired for general operators to employ existing software other than compiling a new program in order to effectively solve the optimization question that may contains integer variables and discrete variables in mechanical design. Based on the introduction of software Lingo10.0, a procedure of a hybrid discrete optimization for mechanical transmission system design is investigated with the consideration of variable multiformity. Some optimization examples reveal that the proposed method based on Lingo10.0 has the follow advantages: (1) it can obtain better and reliable optimization results than general optimization methods, (2) the issues of continuous variables, integer variables, and discrete variables in optimization design can be addressed effectively, and (3) its implementation is simple and calculating speed is very fast.
