Abstract

One of our main tasks is the continuous, as detailed as possible, measurement and observation of the state of atmosphere and its meteorological parameters. Thus we perform surface measurements and observations, atmospheric physical measurements, upper-air (radiosonde) measurements, operate the different remote-sensing — weather radar, windprofiler, SODAR, lightning detection system, and satellite receivers — instruments. In the past years we collected processed the measured data and transmitted them to the central database. We ensured the regular control, maintenance, repair and necessary calibration of the different measuring and automatic equipment. Significant investments and developments were executed also in 2004. The modernization of our radar network continued, the radio-sounding equipment in Budapest and Szeged was modernized. The installation of the instrument receiving the data of the second generation METEOSAT satellite was completed successfully. In 2004 the network of surface stations consisted of 29 synoptic main stations, 59 automatic and 9 traditional climate stations and 560 precipitation stations. From 2005 we are testing 8 automatons produced in Hungary in order to decrease the costs of operation. We are testing the accuracy and reliability of the automatons. At the synoptic meteorological station of Szentgotthard-Farkasfa the non-stop work was terminated and the data of the continuously operated automated meteorolog-
