Abstract

The article analyses the human scientific potential of the Republic of Moldova, based on the annual reports of research organisations and the data of the national authorities for the year 2022. It shows a relatively small number of researchers, if we compare them, in relative values, with those of the European Union countries, most of whom work in institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Research. Among their characteristics we mention older age, predominance of women, employment of most of them in less than 0.5 research units. There is a risk that scientific activity will become a secondary activity in the Republic of Moldova, with adverse consequences for the national research and development system. It is recommended to promote a human resources policy in R&D in line with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
