Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been well established as a causative agent in cervical carcinoma as well as in squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL). Morphologic grading of the HPV-associated lesion guides treatment and should ideally reflect the molecular biology of HPV, including the episomal or integrated physical status of the virus.
