Abstract
Background: Orthodontic treatment is used to improve occlusal function, aesthetics, and abnormal teeth alignment. Fixed orthodontic treatment is widely used to treat mild, moderate and severe malocclusion because it can obtain accurate teeth movement. Disadvantages of fixed orthodontic appliances, especially the stainless steel brackets may cause a “metallic smile“. Fixed appliances components affect the psychosocial status of the young adult patients. Objective: The research aim to know the correlation between fixed orthodontic treatment with the psychosocial status of Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University students. Method: This research is analytical observation research together with cross-sectional design. The questionnaire PIDAQ that is distributed to 100 dental students of Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University who are in active fixed orthodontic treatment. The result is analyzed by statistical software. Results: Female dental students in Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University have a higher total average of PIDAQ score compared to males, each age group has a different PIDAQ score, and the duration of fixed orthodontic treatment affects the psychosocial status of the dental students. Conclusion: Gender, age and duration of fixed orthodontic treatment may affect the psychosocial status of Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University students.
