Abstract

The deep integration of Internet and traditional industries has become an irresistible general trend. However, in the face of the exponential growth of network traffic and the diversification of network functions and performance brought about by the wide popularization of Internet applications and the large-scale deep convergence trend, new problems such as uncontrollable and unmanageable problems of complex and rigid underlying networks, network security problems, network scalability problems and business models are constantly emerging. Compared with the traditional network architecture, Software Defined Network (SDN) is a disruptive innovation of network technology architecture, which breaks the silence in the network field for many years. At present, the deployment of SDN is small, and the traditional architecture network still dominates. Because SDN's definition of network equipment is quite different from the traditional one, it can't be compatible with the traditional network. This paper summarizes the application of SDN in data center, wide area network, wireless network and security field, and discusses how to realize the smooth transition from traditional network architecture to SDN.
