Abstract

ABSTRACT In many ways small libraries have an advantage when using the conspectus method to assess their collections: assessment details are easier to manage and the entire conspectus picture is more readily visualized. This article looks at some of the benefits of using the conspectus in small libraries and suggests appropriate adaptions of the conspectus structure. WLN conspectus software is an efficient tool for assessing small collections in public libraries. The software flexibility enables librarians to produce customized assessment results by adapting the conspectus techniques and tools according to the arrangement of resources in local collections. The conspectus structure provides a standardized point of reference for quickly surveying and describing the entire range of a small library's resources.
