Abstract

This paper reviews how COVID-19 changed the field of Human Resource Management. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Human Resource Managers were tasked with additional responsibilities regarding compliance with new regulations, making arrangements for employees to work at home, reconfiguring the work environment to be safer for onsite employees and customers, and expanding the focus on employee mental health issues. Human Resource Managers also needed to address employee responses to pandemic-related working conditions including labor relations issues and “The Great Resignation”. Throughout the pandemic, the Human Resource profession took on additional responsibilities and moved towards engaging in more strategic and higher-level decision making, and may never be the same.
