Abstract

Hot salt stress corrosion tests have been performed on Ti 6246 smooth test samples, under simulated gas turbine working conditions. The test procedure has been optimised to be representative of these working conditions. The sample lifetime is measured and a mean crack velocity is determined. A model based on surface self diffusion of the aggressive species has been developed to describe the cracking. The influence of the temperature on the model parameters is discussed.
