Abstract

The theory of the free-carrier Faraday effect for hot electrons in non-polar semiconductors has been investigated for microwave frequencies; the optical-phonon scattering of carriers has been taken into account. The effect of an external heating field is included. It is shown that the rotation decreases markedly and the sign of the ellipticity changes in the range of heating field where the contribution to the dielectric constant due to the free carriers is positive.
