Abstract
The Chorographic Commission of Colombia (1850-1859) was an important interdisciplinary scientific project that was to form a detailed picture of the country as a whole, to determine the geographical, social, economic and historical characteristics of the Colombian (then Novogranada) nation. The idea of creating a Chorographic Commission became an important component in the complex of liberal transformations carried out in the country in the middle of the 19th century by a new generation of liberal figures who advocated the modernization of the socio-political and economic structure of post-colonial society. The article deals with the main stages of the activities of the Chorographic Commission, its tasks and results, its contribution to the development of world and Colombian science.
