Abstract

Abstract Tests were conducted on three beef cattle farms in Clarke, Jasper and Newton Counties in south Mississippi. This was the third consecutive year in which tags were placed in the same herds. One ear tag per ear (two/head) was used on all adult cattle. Terminator (diazinon) tags were placed in a herd of 49 cows and two bulls on 10 May. Saber (lambdacyhalothrin pyrethroid) tags were placed in a herd of 81 cows and two bulls on 3 May. Tomahawk (pirimiphos methyl) tags were placed in a herd of 52 cows and one bull on 9 May. Untreated herds of 15 to 30 cows were located in the vicinity of each treated herd. All tags remained in herds for 114 days. Herds were mixed breeds of beef cattle. Horn fly counts were made visually using binoculars once each week.
