Abstract
Objective — to analyze the HIV epidemic situation in the Black Sea region of Ukraine — in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions during 2006—2018.Materials and methods. the investigation used an analytical method. The official statistics data concerning the incidence, prevalence and mortality from HIV infection during the 2006-2018 were investigated. Results and discussion. The incidence of HIV infection (per 100,000 population) during the 2008—2018 in the Black Sea regions of Ukraine annually exceeded the average indexes in Ukraine: in Odesa region — by 2.1 times, in the Mykolaiv — by 2.2 times and in Kherson region — by 1.3 times. The HIV infection prevalence (per 100,000 population) in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions was 2.3—2.7 times higher pertaining the average data in Ukraine. In the Black Sea regions of Ukraine during 2006—2018 the highest rates of AIDS mortality (per 100,000 population) were recorded in the Odesa region.The analysis of the HIV epidemic situation during 2006—2018 in the Black Sea regions of Ukraine allows us to state a significant increase in the HIV incidence, prevalence and mortality rates. Before 2008 the major way of HIV transmission in Ukraine was through drugs injections. But since 2008 the vast majority of new HIV infections have been transmitted through the heterosexual contact. Moreover, the number of people with newly-diagnosed HIV infection has been steadily growing among males who have sex with males.The main ways of HIV transmission among adults in Ukraine are sexual and parenteral. The vast majority of parenteral transmission occur as a result of injecting drug use.Conclusions. Difficult situation in the country with HIV infection can improve certain organizational measures aimed to improve the existing and/or to organize and to implement into the daily practice of governmental and regional healthcare institutions new measures to improve the HIV epidemic situation in the country and in the Black Sea region.
