Abstract
Summary Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were established before the Civil War. Their original mission was to provide educational opportunities for African Americans who could not attend traditionally white institutions (TWIs). Today, HBCUs continue to provide a cultural and educational experience for African American students pursuing higher education. Yet what are the present state and future prospects for HBCUs? How have the constant changes within HBCUs affected libraries? Can non-HBCU libraries develop partnerships and collaborations with these very important libraries? This article will take a closer look at some of these questions and offer suggestions on how all librarians can strengthen connections with HBCU libraries.
