Abstract

Histopathological study on 19 girls with fistula-inano and normal anus and 11 girls with the same fistula and imperforate anus were conducted. It revealed that an indifferential histological structure was found in majority of fistula-in-ano with normal anus and that a well differentiated structure seen if some of fistula-in-ano with normal anus similar to fistula with imperforate anus. The degree of differentiations of the fistula structure might be considered as the main criteria to determine a congenital fistula or an acquired. In this study, the authors thought that most of female fisula are acquired, not denying a few of them being congenital. Key words: Fistula-in-ano; Etiology; Histopa thology
