Abstract
In 129 patients undergoing surgery for primary lung cancer the postoperative prognosis was correlated with the histological features of the regional lymph nodes. The regional lymph nodes were classified according to four patterns: lymphocyte predominance, germinal center predominance, lymphocyte depletion, and unstimulated. The postoperative three year survival rate in stage 2 and 3 patients with the lymphocyte predominance or germinal center predominance pattern was much better than in those with the lymphocyte depletion or unstimulated pattern (p<0.05).
