Abstract

As part of an artistic project combining writing and photography, we asked our students, future teachers of French as a foreign language, to tell and then write a story that had been passed down in their family from generation to generation. Drawing on references taken from Linguistics and Discourse Analysis in particular, we submit for analysis the texts and photographs from the "Histoire de famille" section of the "Voir avec tes yeux" project carried out during the 2019-2020 academic year with students in the Master FLE program at the University of Montpellier. Why might the appropriation of a foreign language be the ideal place to work on memory? Probably because it involves turning the neutral words of the foreign language into words for oneself, by transferring and translating part of the memory charge attached to the words of the mother tongue
