Abstract
THE recent demonstration by Schmidt-Nielsen and co-workers1,2 that in marine birds the nasal (supra-orbital) glands can, under conditions of salt loading, excrete a strongly hypertonic solution of sodium chloride has brought added significance to a study of the comparative cytology and histochemistry of these glands in progress in this department.
