Abstract

Abstract A description is provided for Hirsutella thompsonii . Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: Eriophid mites ( Arachnida ). GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Widespread. DISEASE: McCoy & Kanavel (1969) demonstrated penetration of the integument of living adult rust mites by spores produced in the laboratory. Fisher found internal hyphal bodies in living and in dead rust mites bearing sporing mycelium, the latter attaching the bodies to the leaf bearing the dead mite.
