Abstract
Protonic ceramic electrochemical cells (PCECs) show great promise for power generation, renewable hydrogen production, and sustainable chemical synthesis. Our laboratory at Kansas State University has made significant progress in designing PCEC materials, fabricating PCEC devices, and characterizing PCECs for various applications. In this presentation, I will first introduce our novel PCEC materials and fabrication processes, which have enabled reduced operating temperatures, enhanced performance, and improved durability. Then, I will discuss the research and development of three primary applications of PCECs by our group: power generation in fuel cell mode, green hydrogen production in electrolysis mode, and the synthesis of high-value chemicals using abundant feedstocks.
