Abstract
The transmission characteristics of a new optoelectronic microwave switching device, a laser-controlled microstrip directional coupler, are reported. Measurements show that the characteristics are greatly affected when illuminating the coupling region of the device. Since this device is based on, rather than limited by, capacitive effects, it has the potential for higher-frequency operation than gap discontinuity devices.
