Pierce, M. J. ; Lavery, R. J. Abstract High-resolution CCD images of the Population II binary Mu Cassiopiae have been obtained at a wavelength of 1 micron, and the secondary star was detected. By averaging four short-exposure images, a composite image of FWHM = 0.43 arcsec was obtained. With subsequent model fitting, separation and position angles of 0.93 + or - 0.06, and 224.3 + or - 2.6 deg, were found, respectively. These data, combined with recent astrometric orbits yield masses of M(A) = 0.61 + or - 0.30 solar mass, and M(B) = 0.15 + or - 0.30. The dominant source of error was uncertainties in the astrometric orbital parameters. These results may provide further constraints on the orbital parameters and result in more interesting limits to the helium abundance.
