Abstract

The authors propose high-performance single-phase and three-phase power factor correction (PFC) converters using a new pulse integral value-related modulation scheme. In the new modulation technique, the time integral value of modulated current or voltage in each modulation period is precisely measured and controlled so as to track a reference by means of a simple analog modulator. Thus, the new modulation based PFC converters do not produce modulation errors or undesirable lower order harmonics of modulated AC current or voltage, even if the DC current or voltage produces large ripples. As a result, the PFC converters can obtain high-performance under a condition of a minimal DC reactive component.
