Abstract

Abstract We use the one-dimensional finite-element method (FEM) to solve the nonlinear coupled-wave equations for degenerate two-wave mixing (DTWM) and four-wave mixing (DFWM) in a reflection geometry. High-order (quadratic) elements have been used. A comparison is made between the results obtained using the high-order FEM, and those using the first-order FEM, which have been reported previously. High accuracy is achieved using the high-order FEM which employs substantially fewer elements.
