Abstract

The 1-D finite element method (FEM) which employs first-order finite elements has been used to solve the nonlinear coupled-wave equations for degenerate two-wave mixing (DTWM) and four-wave mixing in a reflection geometry. Numerical results have been obtained from computer calculations and presented in graphical form. A brief comparison between the FEM and the direct method (for DTWM only), the shooting method and the finite difference method [the O(h7) method], is made.
