Abstract

It is the aim of this contribution to present a highly dynamic approximation for active power and fundamental voltage / current calculation of inverter-fed drives. Instead of the conventional active power and fundamental component calculation which is based on the fundamental cycle of the electrical quantities, this novel analysis is based on the inverter switching cycle. For this reason, in a lot of practical applications, this new calculation method can be faster up to several hundred times more than the conventional evaluation methods. This paper presents the advantages of this novel switching frequency based active power and fundamental component calculation as well as the limitations of its applicability. Furthermore, its equivalence to the conventional calculation methods for several ideal theoretical conditions will be proven mathematically. Moreover, the quality of the approximation for practical usage will be visualized by descriptive measurement results.
