Abstract
The whole hearts of neonatal lambs were subjected to histochemical detection of vagal nerve fibres and ganglia. The methods included demonstration of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity as a marker of cholinergic nerves and immunohistochemistry of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) an enzyme associated with bioaminergic fibres. The results showed an abundance of epicardial ganglia distributed widely along ovine ventricular nerves for some distance below the coronary groove. None of the ACHE positive ganglia were positive for TH.
