Abstract
This paper reports a new W-band (∼94 GHz) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer which is constructed for measurements of raw or fresh biological samples. Measured biological samples include plant seeds, leaves, and bacterial pellets, and their size is typically 1mm x 1mm x 1mm. The setup and performance of the spectrometer are described, and some remaining problems are discussed. Results for a raw seed, a freshly cut leaf, and a TEMPO-absorbed leaf are presented. The former two exhibited well-resolved six-line signals due to trace MnII, which were not observed or only weakly observed in X-band spectra The latter one exhibited a spectrum where two signals from TEMPO in aqueous media and lipid media are clearly separated, which demonstrates good g resolution of W-band EPR.
