Abstract

The following contribution* presents a private initiative at national level in the United Kingdom, namely the Council for Higher Education and Industry. Steered by industrial companies, predominantly the large firms, the Council's history illustrates how common concerns can be effectively expressed and articulated, and how collective views conveyed by industry can assist in shaping the strategic agenda for higher education at national level.
