Abstract

Summary We propose a global and adaptive variable-grid strategy and developed it into elastic forward modelling. In our method, the horizontal grid interval is fixed but the vertical grid interval varies with medium velocity and source frequency. We use a modified Marmousi model to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the computing efficiency has increased by 32.4 % and the wavefield error is less than 1 %. We conclude that the proposed method has the potential to be further applied to elastic least-squares reverse time migration and elastic full-waveform inversion in the future.
